FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I BOOK?

Getting started at Candor and Hope Therapy is easy. Just click any “Schedule Now” button to book your first session and complete your intake paperwork.

If you're feeling unsure or a little nervous, you're not alone. Starting therapy is a brave and meaningful step. Even if you’re second-guessing, remember what brought you here—that motivation still matters.

Your well-being is important to us. We’ll be here, ready to walk with you whenever you’re ready to take that next step.

I’VE NEVER TALKED TO ANYONE. I’M USED TO HANDLING THINGS ON MY OWN. AREN’T PEOPLE WHO GO TO THERAPY WEAK?

It’s a common misconception—and frankly, a stubborn one—that asking for help means weakness. Let me tell you straight: it takes real strength to say, “I need support.” Therapy isn’t about weakness; it’s about facing your challenges head-on, gaining clarity, and building the tools to handle life better.

At Candor and Hope Therapy, we honor your independence. Even the strongest benefit from support. You don’t have to carry it alone or have it all figured out to start.

WHAT TYPE OF CLIENTS DO YOU SERVE?

At Candor and Hope Therapy, we welcome people from all backgrounds.

Our team helps clients with anxiety, anger, trauma, communication struggles, interpersonal challenges, relationship stress, and childhood wounds. We also guide parents with evidence-based strategies to strengthen bonds with their children, parenting young adult children, and improving family dynamics.

For couples and families, we offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment to explore individual and relationship needs, process shared experiences, and move toward healing—together.

HOW DOES THERAPY WORK? WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO IN SESSIONS?

Therapy is a personalized process based on your needs, goals, and pace. Together, we identify what helps and what holds you back to create real change. You don’t need all the answers—just the courage to begin.

Sessions may focus on patterns, healing, coping skills, relationships stuck points, or simply offer a safe space to process challenges. We approach each session with compassion and clarity. Most insurances cover an initial assessment plus 6–15+ sessions. Progress relies on your attendance, openness, and engagement. We’ll guide you from there.

I WANT TO GET HELP BUT I CAN’T AFFORD IT. WHAT CAN I DO?

Many insurance plans include mental health benefits, and we encourage you to contact your provider to learn more about your specific coverage. If you’re uninsured or choosing to pay privately, we offer flexible payment plans for eligible clients to help make therapy more accessible.

As part of our commitment to transparency, we provide Good Faith Estimates (GFEs) to all self-pay clients at the start of services and update them annually.

SHOULD I JUST TAKE MEDICATION?

Medication can help manage symptoms, but it’s often most effective alongside therapy. Research supports this combined approach for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and more.

At Candor and Hope Therapy, we collaborate with you—and your prescriber or support network when appropriate—to ensure coordinated, compassionate care that fits your goals.

Healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. We’re here to help you find what works best.

WHAT SERVICES DOES YOUR PRACTICE COVER?

At Candor and Hope Therapy, we start with an initial diagnostic assessment, followed by 6 to 15 (or more) therapy sessions, and a final termination or transition session—usually covered by insurance.

We also provide additional services like DUI evaluations, support letters, records requests, legal documentation, clinical consultations, and educational workshops. These may incur extra fees and are offered at the clinician’s discretion.

To ensure ethical care, these services are available only to clients actively engaged in therapy for at least six months, allowing for informed clinical decisions.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TALKING TO A THERAPIST VS. TALKING TO MY BEST FRIEND OR FAMILY?

Loved ones offer comfort, but therapy goes deeper. Therapists are trained to uncover patterns, provide evidence-based tools, and create a confidential, nonjudgmental space focused solely on you.

Unlike friends or family, therapy lets you express tough emotions freely—without risking relationships or reopening old wounds. You set the pace, define your goals, and build the life you want, with professional support every step of the way.

Have questions? We’re here to help.
